The history of the Internet is in some ways the history of public computer networking. The progenitor of the modern Internet was ARPANet which first coalesced in 1969 (October 29). The Internet is really a computer network based on the TCP/IP protocols and was established in 1983 (January 1). Vint Cerf is the man commonly identified as having originated the term Internet.
